I never bothered with brown rice because I thought it was a little expensive and just generally a pain in the ass to not be able to get a big 10kg bag of it. However, I am really getting sick of white steamed rice. I can never eat the full amount that comes in the bento now and watching other people greedily stuffing gobs of the stuff into their mouth makes me want to throw up in my mouth a little. I realize now that I desperately miss whole grains.

I am jealous you are able to get rid of all the rice for kyuushoku. I'm able to get rid of a little rice to the JHS boys if I lucky some days. Usually all the tiny girls get to them first, and I don't have the heart to ask a kid with a basketball-sized portion of rice if he can eat more.
I'm not so much worried about eating it, I just feel painfully full everyday after lunch. Like right now; I have a stomachache.
I straight up told the tea ladies at my schools to not give me any rice. I put the milk in the faculty fridge.

I don't know how Japanese people keep claiming that plain white rice is the healthiest thing on earth and should be eaten 3 times a day. I wish Japan would get on board with whole grains.

I haven't bought white rice once in my 4 years in japan, although I had it when eating out and bentos ofcourse. I get the mugi-no-megumi breaf or muffins that at least claim to have some whole grain in it and also miss the multigrain bread (sometimes get it at import shops as well as wholegrain pasta)

Well Japanese people are doing something right with their white rice, with long lifespans and low obesity levels...

Some bodies handle empty carbohydrates better than others. Sort of like some people are lactose intolerant and others are not. Check out this article:

I think asians tend towards the body type that can handle empty carbs and not gain much weight. I`m of german/french heritage and have lost a lot of weight from cutting any empty carbs, especially shit with refined sugar.

I eat copious amounts of white rice and white bread, yet because I work out all the time it doesn't effect me.

Oh and I disagree I do think you flaunt your experience (what little you have of it) and you are definitely a condescending pompous prick.
Oh, and when you feel threatened you play the man and not the ball, like now.

yeah, if you are doing LOTS of weight lifting you can usually get away with eating more carbs. However, It`s kind of stupid to try to compensate with exercise for your diet.

Every body is different and it`s much easier to overeat if you eat lots of carbs.

White rice and bread are not bad for you because they make you fat, they are (considered to be) bad because in the bleaching process they loose most of the nutritional value. And the fiber. Not enough fiber slowes the metabolism, so yes if you work out it hurts you less in terms of weight.

People always seam to think of healthy and unhealthy food in terms of weight loss, but it affects so many things.

God you are so fucking stupid. Did you really go to UCLA? I cannot believe it, to be frank. Every body *is* different, that doesn't mean it's okay to be fat. There is tons of research out there about eating according to your body type.

I think the idea is to switch to healthier grains (and not so copious of amounts), keep working out all the time, and then you can finally see results, no?

EDIT: A landwhale whining about PEOPLE'S BODIES ARE DIFFERENT is pretty LOL, don't you think?

ya'll need dieting buddies!

or a whatchamacallit... like, a sponsor. anytime you walk into a FAMILY MART or walk by a bakery and have the urge to eat everything in sight, call your sponsor so they can totally talk you out of it.

or you can sack up and exercise some self control. or whatever. maybe i'm oversimplifying things, but isn't losing weight pretty much basic math? if calories burned - calorie intake > 0, you lose weight?

meh, either way, i'm cool with my tubgut. it keeps me warm at night...

Gusuke, you're an ass. Fat is like the last acceptable form of discrimination, and it isn't right.

+billions

A few other JETs and I have formed a weight loss group in my town. We meet once a week and talk diets and track our weight loss.

Sadly, there is one woman in the group who really needs to lose weight, but doesn't believe in the 'basic math' part of weight loss. She thinks 'cause she rides her bike to work (about 10 minutes a day) and does her own cooking she should be losing weight...never mind that she eat large portions, eats school lunch every day etc. etc. etc.

The lesson we can take from all this is to be less French/German like elleohelle and more fucking ridiculously hardcore like Gusuke.
