also in japan they shake with the left hand out and slightly away from the body. it is an old tradition left over from samurai days because your right hand was your sword hand, so shaking with it would be like saying, hey, i want to kill you and make your retainers my retainers.
does anybody else play Nobunaga no Yabou? do you kill the retainers of the samurai you fell, do you let them go, or do you make them your own? |

Nobody will be expecting it from you (they all know foreigners shake hands and will try to be cool and shake hands with ya) but Japanese people definitely still bow in everyday life, specially in their professional life. Deep bows are saved for very important people, or for appologizing, which they do very often lol. When you come across fancy service people you will see bowing, but at school not so much. However if someone bows to you you should return the favor just make sure you dont bump heads lol.
The "mini bows" at the conbini you are talking about are more like nods, and its almost unnoticable until you go home and discover you have a bowing reflex hehe. Your question was not stupid or ignorant at all, but I guess when people hear "bow" they imagine someone hitting their forehead to the floor or something. |

It's alright, except my male co-workers all think sexual harrassment is ok because it's a patriarchal society. You'd think having the principal try to make you go down on him in his office is rare, but it's quite common (pay attention, Rosie).

It's okay. I'm approaching my target weight of 100 kg which will be a big milestone but I still have quite a ways to go.

Do met-for (that's British-speak for metaphores) often go over your head?
maybe you have a genesis of the corpus-callosum. That7s the part of the brain that connects the two hemispheres. |

They give you a lesson in bowing during orientation. But it's a known fact that people who flap their arms about suitcases and omiage way before they are even accepted will in fact not get accepted
