There are so many verb compounds with ~込む... so let's make this thread only for ~込む compounds!

飲み込む - to swallow; gulp down

A lil Lagniappe for you guys...

呑み込む(also のみこむ)- to understand (理解する)

I hate compound verbs in Japanese. They make no sense and there's no short cut for learning them :mad:

申し込む = to apply
入り込む = to enter

読み込む-to express, to read (Like an extra meaning)

i almost always hear that one used in a metaphysical sense like

闇に飲み込まれた it was swallowed by darkness

降り込む - To rain upon
振り込む - Making a payment using a bank transfer

I'm sure Doug brought it up from watching pr0n. That's a pretty common way of saying "to swallow". :)

落ち込む -- to become depressed
駆け込む -- to rush in
巻き込む -- to roll up, to engulf

巻き込む is my favorite because they use it to describe the action of trucks goofing up their turning radius and oops! destroying a fellow motorist.
