Hey guys

After starting a new Japanese text that I hated and a new job, I never really got into the routine of studying again. I have decided to dump my current text and get another intermediate book. I want to get JLPT2 next year. According to my teacher, (ignoring kanji) I am between 2 and 3 but my kanji isn't good enough as of yet (my fault, as I have never studied it but I just picked it up here and there).

I want to know if anyone know if the minna no nihongo cyuukyuu is any good or not? I loved the first two.

Also, can anyone recommend a good kanji book with a load of practice?

Thanks

Mike

That text is good for general study stuff. But after finishing it you won't be near JLPT 2級.

The basic and intermediate kanji books will get you to around 1000 kanji. They have lots of practice.

For learning kanji, you should pick these up: Amazon.co.jp: Japanese Kanji Flashcards, Vol. 1 : The Complete Set of Kanji for Levels 3 & 4 of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (Third Edition): Max Hodges, Tomoko Okazaki: 洋書 (http://www.amazon.co.jp/Japanese-Kanji-Flashcards-Vol-Proficiency/dp/0974869449/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=english-books&qid=1254109876&sr=8-1) (4kyu and 3kyu)

and

Amazon.co.jp: Japanese Kanji Flashcards: For Level 2 of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test: Max Hodges, Tomoko Okazaki: 洋書 (http://www.amazon.co.jp/Japanese-Kanji-Flashcards-Language-Proficiency/dp/0974869414/ref=pd_sim_fb_2) (2kyu)

I currently use these, and I find them extremely helpful

Minna no nihongo is good but only gets to around level 3 grammar I think.

I’m using minna no nihongo for grammar at SOAS and go into intermediate next week, which is around 3 kyuu . For the kanji we use Basic Kanji Book 1 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Basic-Kanji-Book-v-1/dp/4893580914/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1254130094&sr=8-1) which should get you to 250 chars, there are 4 parts to the series Basic 1 and 2 and intermediate 1 and 2, I would guessume that by the end of the 4th book you should be fully comfortable in level 2.

I also recommend the Kanji cards stufflikethat put up, you'll need to buy both boxes tho as its cumulative
