Folks down in Miyazaki and Kagoshima, looks like you're getting the day off.

I've had snow days before, and even a 'Hurricane Day' once, but I've never had a 'Volcano Day' before. :o

We had to cancel our culture festival for a typhoon last year. That day was beautiful and sunny. It was awesome.

My friends are blaming the crazy weather we have on the fricken volcano.

Sakurajima gives us Kagoshima folks daily ash days, only we don't get off work for it. My students sweep and bag ash during cleaning time every day.

What the Miyazaki and Miyakonojo folks are experiencing isn't from Sakurajima, but an overdue eruption from Shinmoedake, part of the Kirishima volcano complex. Sakurajima vents regularly so ash fall is manageable, but this one has been corked up for over 50 years which explains the excess.
