Hey everyone!

Does anyone know the rules about lending / borrowing cars in Japan? As in between friends. One of my friends wants to borrow someone elses car because it has a ETC card reader. He plans on exchanging his car for the weekend. So two JETs will be driving each other's car. They both have insurance and Japanese licenses. Is it legal? Are people insured for a single car, or any car they drive?

I've heard a thousand theories. Does anyone actually know?

cars are insured, not people. depends on your insurance policy, I pay the extra 500 yen a month on mine to cover any driver over 26. If you dont have this I wouldn't lend your car to anyone (the compulsory insurance you get as part of the shaken may cover any driver, not sure)

My policy didn't cover third-party drivers. Usually you have to pay extra for that, unless it's built into their basic coverage.
