Anyone coming to Gifu?

If so, congratulations(?) you're in one of the only land-locked prefectures in Japan. I'm not sure this is really all that great aside from the fact that you won't have to worry about being tsunamied to death. I guess theoretically you could, but if a tsunami is reaching Gifu then we have much bigger problems.

I don't know what to say about Gifu other than hope that you're in the south. You'll be relatively close to Nagoya and a manageable distance from both Tokyo and Osaka.

The northern region of Hida is kind of an isolated, frozen wasteland. There's lots of nature and a ton of onsen, but not much else to do from what I can tell. The people up there are tight so you should have no reason to go insane or drink alone.

So Gifu as a whole, um, it's here. You're here. If you have an interest in pottery you can probably learn a lot about that. Oda Nobunaga also killed a bunch of people here, so if you're a history buff there might be a lot for you to nerd out about.

So yes, welcome to Gifu.

I have a sweet gig already lined up at the tourism office after my contract is up.

But seriously, there are a lot more Japanese cultural opportunities and things to do than what I mentioned. Maybe it's just because I've lived here too long, but Gifu doesn't have anything that really distinguishes it from the rest of Japan. It's not a bad place to live by any means.

Nah, I'm good for anything. Japanese people be everywhere, so anywhere is fine by me.

I've been to the northern part and yeah, it is one of the most remote parts of the country.

But the south looks pretty good, practically part of Nagoya right?

That's a bit of a stretch, although parts of it are geographically really close.
