Wow, such excitement. I made an account just to post here. I live in the Twin Cities but I'll be driving to Chicago for my interview. I have a buddy who applied also but didn't get in, he's taking it pretty hard. We were supposed to go to Chicago together but I guess I'm going alone now. If there's anyone in the Twin Cities that wants to meet up/practice/hang out/carpool, just let me know.

Congrats to those of you who made it, good luck to us all.

Good Luck! I interviewed out of the SF consulate as well (going to school there, but from Hawaii) and was nervous too. It was pretty intimidating going to the hotel and sitting with my competition for the interviews. I was lucky my professor's wife was the Ex-JET in the waiting room, so I was able to calm my nerves by talking with her. I thought I completely bombed the interview, but here I am teaching in Japan.

I think one of the CIRs in Okinawa are leaving. So you might even get lucky enough to hang out with the awesome people here! I'm sure you're not excited about getting Okinawa though. No one ever is prior to actually getting here. I mean, it's closer to Tainwan for crying out loud!

But anyways. You might want to consider updating the list stating whether people applied for the first time or if it's their second/third time around.

Hey! I just got word of my interview so today has been pretty much adding myself to any JET forum I could find. Facebook, reddit, etc. I see that you're teaching in Okinawa and you're looking for someone to fill in your shoes when you leave. Well I applied with my first choice being Okinawa! So I'm hoping because I chose Okinawa that'll give me a better chance than applying for Osaka or Tokyo. I hope I could talk to you more about how it is teaching there, the good, the bad, the ugly. Ya know.

Zolrak 22

If I'm not mistaken, placement requests don't affect your score or chances of being accepted. [emoji6]

That's verified after you are chosen. They try to place you somewhere compatible, but it's never guaranteed.

This is cold, hard data. We don't need emotions here.

Oh man. I'm not going to be picky, but I really would hate Okinawa. Give me Yamagata snow piles any day. I went to Okinawa for a week and I was sick every.single.day. I think I might be allergic to pork lard. As long as I ate Honshu style Japanese food all the time I guess it would be okay...

Got my email last night congratulating me on my interview acceptance. Gotta find a way to Atlanta now. Probably going to ask my career advisor to do a mock interview just for fun since it can't hurt. Planning on doing what Maiami suggested, being myself and thinking on my feet. Hate the fake sounding, pretentious answers I see in interviews.

I am going to fight the fake sincerity, but I can definitely see why people do it. They'd rather be right than real. Being yourself you run the risk of the panel not liking your real answers, while being generic means you have the right answer (or what they think you think is right) and don't have to worry about saying the wrong thing.

Is it the general consensus among coordinators to prefer "real" over "right" ?

I have never docked points for someone being sincere with me. It is always very refreshing! Of course, if your sincere answer is that you hate children and just want to go to Japan to get paid for living in anime-land, then well..... work on that answer ;)

The thing is, experienced panelists and coordinators can normally see right through the fakey attitudes and answers. I would see you as not being sincere, and hiding something.

There are always people that leave the interview room, and the whole panel agrees that the person seemed too much like a politician. "Big ol' fake smile, and let me say what you want to hear!"

In most cases, there are no right answers(Besides the obvious). More than anything, your interview will be a personality test. We want to see if we think you will fit as an ALT/CIR in Japan.

Do you want to be among the 100 people who all said the same answers, or do you want to be one of the people that we remember at the end of the week? That is my personal opinion on the matter.

Don't believe this, even if he is a 6' 13'' bristle-bearded Khal. He runs events in Japantown, frequently updates the online masterlist of shortlisted and alternate forms (what's been turned in and what is still needed), forages the forums for lost graduates looking to move abroad.. outreach program ronin, JET alumni organizing ninja, orator, sensei, the works. Plus he'll take you out for pizza if you are sad enough to be listed an alternate for three months and are upgraded 4 weeks before departure.

I think it went okay! The questions I was asked were not totally what I expected/prepped for, but we will see what happens.

Best of luck to you too!

I also thought my interview was great, immediately after. But now, a week and a half later, I'm starting to think that maybe I came off a bit cocky or arrogant. Plus, I'm questioning some of the ridiculous things I said. Oh well, what's done is done. By the way, I was in Calgary for the interview too, but on the 3rd, between about 11 am and noon, for any others that were there at that time.

Just stumbled on this forum - I had my interview on the 28th of January and I felt like it went really well! Perhaps almost too well, after what I have read about nightmare interviews and how scary they can be etc...

The waiting is driving me crazy however!! I'm sure everyone is feeling this. Crossing my fingers for you all :)

I noticed on the Sydney consulate website that if you listed yourself as being eligible for the early (April) departure that:
"8 April, 2015 April arrivals arrive in Japan and start appointment (9 April, 2015)"...
This is very soon!!??

I finally decided to join this forum to get more information on whether or not there were any Canadians accepted for ED. I'm still waiting on results!

I know of three others in ottawa who applied this year but not for early departure. We seem to be scarice on online forums!

I had my interview back on Feb 4th, and while I was waiting I heard a few references to "the forums" ... I guess this is the place! :^_^: I left my consulate feeling thrilled, then second guessed everything I said, and now I'm just anxious and trying to keep my excitement in check. I wish I had known about this site sooner, I could've used the tips and support while going through this nearly year long application process. Better late than never~ I've decided to stop lurking and start posting because if I do get accepted it will be nice to have some senior advice, and if I don't get accepted, we can commiserate together. I'm hoping for the former, of course! Only a few more weeks...

Rubylis, it's always good to see someone else from Jersey.

Anyone else think they're going to continue with the "early schedule" this year?

I don't know...

I've started to shamelessly logging into the JET Application site periodically and checking if I missed any notifications for messages sent to my JET Inbox. I'm also not sure if I dreamt that I got accepted or I was just imagining it. Perhaps the only thing I know for sure now is that I'm officially crazy.

I think last year they started sending out notifications on March 31 and throughout that week. It depends on the consulate though I'm sure. Anyone know how Chicago usually does? Hahaha. I think we're all getting antsy just to know *something* at this point... like am I gonna need to drink to celebrate or drink to down my sorrows, that's the big question....

It's times like these that I wish the MC/SFC would be super cool and just drop a subtle hint as to when we can expect it.

And bigger consulates are probably going to be subjected to longer waits...great....

Last year I got my alternate email (DC) on April 2. They were doing notifications for shortlisting and alternates in the other consulates that whole day. It was pretty stressful, haha. Seattle found out a few days later though.

I think someone said all the results are released at once this year, so you shouldn't have to wait longer. Hopefully.

And I don't think MC or SFC know the exact date. Tokyo sort of just gives it to them whenever they're done, as far as I know.

From my understanding, the results are released all at once to all the consulates, buuut it depends on when each individual consulate gets around to making calls/sending emails. I think that's where the wait comes in? Unless they're just planning on just like sending a mass email to everyone all at once lol. Who knows!

Eh, I guess it doesn't really make much of a time difference either way.

Exactly. The only thing that's going to suck is when the first few people find out and the rest of us are just waiting...anxiously...

I enjoy worrying, it let's me know I'm alive.
And to be fair, I had pretty much blocked the whole process out for the last month. It was only until this past week that I started getting anxious again.

If we do end up at orientation, I'll end up smacking you for being to nonchalant about it. CARE DAMMIT!

Hello. 1st time posting on here, but have been skulking around for a month or so.
Had my interview 29th Jan in London. Was absolutely fine last month. Didn't think about it at all. Didn't bother me.
THIS MONTH.......it's driving me nuts waiting to find out. If I've got on, great. If I haven't, at least I can start looking at other positions and applying.
And as someone said before, drink to celebrate or drink to commiserate.

First post. I've been avoiding registering because I didn't want to get too nervous about the final decision, but with only a week to go, I couldn't help myself anymore.

My interview seemed to go well, despite the fact I lost my voice two days before due to allergies. No idea why so many people online say their interview was "like a war tribunal", because everyone at the Houston consulate was super sweet. 5 friends also interviewed and had similar experiences. (Well, not really the case for my shitty roommate, but that's another story...)
