Thought it might be a good idea to have a thread with details of the members here and any meetings etc we set up. Maybe we can make the effort to see each other at the orientation as well :)

If you want to add your details, a website or a picture you think would look nice, then please post here and I'll add it. One last thing Expo 2005 ( http://www-0.expo2005.or.jp/en/index.html ) is in our region and specificially in Aichi-Ken, I went to the Expo in Sevilla a few years back and it was amazing so something to look forward to :)

Nice, Rick! Very glad to see this listing. It makes tracking the placees much easier.

One suggestion, though. How about listing details of everyone's placement as it becomes available, i.e. the city/town/village and school. It's very nice to know who else is in the region and in the same prefecture, but it'd be even more useful if I could tell who would be where relative to me. Also might make organizing regional get-togethers easier.

Hmm... We could also potentially list which group people will be arriving on. Would help for organizing meetings at Tokyo Orientation, so we knew who would be there for the different meetings. I'm group A, BTW.

Hehe, well it's not like I had anything better to do, like revise for my upcoming last exam on Thursday for example

Great Idea about the listing the groups and specific locations btw, I'll do that if people post here with their details if they want them adding.

Hey Rich,

Cool, thanks for doing that, looking for as many thing to do to avoid the revision huh?!

Well, im in a place called Murakami City, just north of Niigata City, group B. Might as well be in Hokkaido in fairness...grr! Am not bitter, am not bitter :-)!!

Look forward to meeting some of you in London/Tokyo!

Good work for rounding up the Chubu posse.

I'm going to Fukui (you have already listed this) and I'm in Group B, London.

No further details as of yet, but I've got my fingers crossed for Katsuyama or Ono.

Cool! Toyama was basically my second choice for placement. If you slipped in a rural request, here's hoping you get Toga-mura. Great-looking little place that only got bumped from my top slot when I saw the wonders that are Takayama (here's hoping I -GET- Takayama instead of out-of-the-way-cho in the middle of Hida with no train access)

Good luck, Chiara, and I hope to see you hanging around the southern border.

Shizuoka for me but exact place unknown.

Can someone tell me the difference between a prefecural JET and a city JET?
The city JETs seem to have been placed earlier but I thought all JET's were in the same boat.

Well played on the info Richard. Not bad for a Boro.

I'll be working for a private company teaching English at a high school. I think the Expo would be great to check out, frozen mammoth and all. I'm from the West coast of Canada and I was too young for Expo '86 in Vancouver.

Sounds great Easy!
It seems like a long time that u have to wait until you come out here. Do you know where in Nagoya yet? Nagoya is a big place...I am actually on the outskirts of Nagoya...doesn't take too long to get into the big city though!
They are making the new train line for expo right outside my apartment which will be great!
Do you know any Japanese?

Would you recommend Nagoya for a visit?

I was thinking about it for a weekend.

Not much is written about it in tourists guides but Aichi is the next ken and Nagoya is its big city so I thought I would check it out at some point.

Well, I have it pretty easy. While JET applicants have just handed in their application and have to wait until next year before they know where they're going, I've already been hired, with no messy application or anything.

I don't know where I'll live in Nagoya, possibly Tenpaku ku. All I know is some of the different districts, like Sakae is the entertainment district...yeah that's about it.

I've been practicing Japanese on my own. I know a few phrases and the grammar as well as hiragana, but I've been too lazy to memorize katakana, but it shouldn't take too long to do that. I don't think I'll even attempt any Kanji.

From what I've read on other JET boards and the like, they always describe Nagoya as a sh*t hole. I don't know why though. Maybe if they're living in Tokyo or Osaka they have a superiority complex or something.

I'm only posting this because the Chubu thread ain't gettin' any play.

Let's give it up for the Chubu Region! It's shaped like an upside down version of South America and it has a place called Nippon Challenge.

Three cheers for Chubu!

Peace.
