Hey guys, how is everybody?

I'm finishing up my contract with my BoE (I'm on JET right now), and after it's done I'm still going to have 1 year left on my instructor visa. My plan was to go back to my home country for a while (Canada), and then re-enter Japan using my current visa, and then find a job while I'm here. Ideally I want to line up a job before leaving Japan in the first place, or then when I'm in Canada, but I guess I want the freedom to be able to come back and look from here. It sounds OK because after all, I do have permission to be in the country for another year... but I was wondering if I'm able to do this. Maybe some of you were in the same boat and could offer some input?

I emailed my consulate but seeing as it's going to take 20 years to get a response, I just wanted to hear what others have done.

Thanks,

Cash

You can still get the pension refund up to 2 years after leaving Japan. Or has it changed?

I mean he cant get the refund until he leaves so if he wants to come back on the same visa he'll have to wait to apply.

best bet would be to leave, apply for the refund then come back on a new visa.

I was reading about permanent resident status on that site. It's pretty harsh about what you need to do, to live in Japan permanently.

Unless you're the number 1 person in your field and have been awarded multiple awards and shit...they'll just kick you out. =P

Hey guys, thanks for that info... I hadn't thought about that pension refund business. I'll have to look into that more... it sounds like I only need to be in Canada to start the process of getting it, and then I can come back while it's underway.

I'll check out that link... thanks for the leads!
