    Re: House/Apartment insulation

How badly the cold will affect you over the winter really depends on how far north you live. Like some others have said, the winter can be unbearable in places like Hokkaido, Aomori and Tohoku....

Re: Applying to Interac, then JET?

They are a company that hires ALTs out to schools who need them. They aren't terrible it's just that compared to the lofty positions JET doles out, the work is harder and you make less pay. The...

It happens everywhere in the world, not just Japan. But it is quite prevalent in Japan.
  5. Re: What are the chances of making it into JET from the Interview?

I'm pretty sure the pictures are required for your work visa or something official along those lines. They aren't actually studying them and only taking attractive applicants or something.

    Also,...

Your cat is still a kitten right? Well, by the summer she'll be older and more capable of handling herself alone for a day. Cats are really very independent if they're left to their own devices. They...

    Re: China or Taiwan anyone?

Just a quick word of caution about Taiwan...the job market there is shit right now, especially if you want to work in Taipei. Many reputable language schools will ask you to do a free lesson for them...
  9. Sticky: Re: Official "Things that can and cannot be found in Japan"

I've bought both olive oil and balsamic vinegar at my local grocery store. They have several different brands to choose from. Not to worry. Also, if you enjoy pesto with your pasta, I bought that at...

Re: JET Program is a SCAM!

I think people forget sometimes that applying to JET is the same as a job interview. Not everyone gets the job and you ARE just a number to them. You don't get points for trying hard. What they're...
  11. Sticky: Re: Official "Things that can and cannot be found in Japan"

There's a nice foreign foods store, at least in the Kansai region, called Yamaya. They carry a good selection of real cheese, many many different kinds of alcohol, American soft drinks (thing Dad's...

Re: Mt. Fuji! (And Other Fun Things)

Fuji actually isn't that bad to climb. At least, I didn't find it terrible. There are a lot of rest stations on the way up where you can buy drinks etc. I would definitely recommend packing warm...

The girls are better than the guys IMO but some of the guys aren't bad. I just don't think they're anything to write home about.

Re: Official 2010 Applicant Time-Waster thread

That big black dude with the baby is pretty chill. His biceps are the size of my head. And the one with the glasses...neck tattoo? He was pretty sweet at first but I'm kind of indifferent to him now....

    Re: JAL Mileage Points?

Honestly my answer isn't concrete, it's just what I've been told. It'd be worth looking into further. Try Googling the question? Sometimes that works for me.

    Re: JAL Mileage Points?

I don't think it's possible. Even if you have to change the name/number on your card cause you get married or lose it or whatever you can't transfer the points over. The points are tied to your...

Yeah...JET transfers are impossible. I would know. If you are desperate to get out of the inaka I suggest not re-contracting and finding a job in the city.
