    <tt>Hi Matt,

OK, so now I am cracking up! I"m sure I read an earlier posting saying that the
UK embassy HAD received notification from Tokyo, and that they would be posting
the letters 2morrow???? I can"t find it now, as too many to search through!
Did anyone else see that that?

Speaking of too many postings, my mail box keeps getting filled to maximum
capacity! I went away for a few days and it was truely bursting at the seams!

It is my Easter break and I am trying to relax / clean my house / organise stuff
for going to Japan (there"s nothing like positive thinking!) but I am being
forced into checking my mail more regularly! Well, I don"t want to miss
    anything!

Well done and congrats to our friends in the US of A who have had good nooows!
    C U in Tokyo!

    <tt>Cool, Yen Ting!

Great, I"m seeing or rather reading more messages from Singaporeans!
It"s such a relief, at least, knowing that there are locals waiting
    together with me.

Hee, it"s kinda funny for me... u went in last on the 12th, while i
was first. Wonder if the same panel had interviewed us all...

Let me recall the pple in that rectangular room in the embassy that
    fateful day...,

    (from the left)
1)a lady in her 30s with a tiny voice, i can hardly hear her qns!
2)an old but tsuyoi, bespectacled japanese man with white hair whom
seems to be smiling the whole of 20 mins while i was in there.
Wonder if he managed to freeze his smile till he finished
    interviewing every one...hohohoho
3)an Ang Moh man, who seems to possess a deposition completely
different from the previous guy. He hardly smiled and his qn to me
    was really tough!
4)another japanese man. He was Late!!! for 10 mins!!! so unlike
japanese! Half of the time, he seemed to be driffing away ... and he
looked like he just woke up! Grr, was interviewing me tat boring?
5)a petite japanese lady who urshered me into tat interview room.
Cool and cold at first, but she talked to me as i was walked out of
the room. What a relief! Silence was unbearable on that day, at
    least to me...

Care to share your experiences on interview day as we wait?
    :D

    Cheers,

    Rachel

    <tt>yeah sure!

oh man that day seems forever imprinted on my mind. you were the
1st?? i would had been nerved out. the order seems to had shifted a
bit by the time i got in:
    from left
    1) that nice 30ish Japanese woman who insisted on torturing me w
    Japanese qns b4 i left
2)that awful angmoh man who asked the toughest qns, scribbled lots of
stuff on his A3 sized papers and frowned at my every answer
    3) the nice middleaged Japanese man who yes, was still wearing his
smile by the time i came in. he caught me offguard immed with
his Have i seen you somewhere b4? qn the minute i walked in...
    4) a nice slim 20ish Japanese lady who ushered me out too, and asked
me if that was the first time i underwent such an interview ( YES!! )-
-think that means I was really nervy throughout the interview.

no sight of the sleepy gentleman though--think he decided to droop
off for a nap and conserve energy for the next day? since i heard
that there were F-I-V-E interviewers for Julia too, if am not
    mistaken.

yupz. overall pretty unsure how i performed--but i always am, even
when I"ve done well...so i take it as a good sign. bt am all prepared
    mentally for any news.

hope to hear more from the rest to while away these painful
    hours/mins/secs...

    essay word count: 1800
rite SHOULD be getting back to serious stuff. it"s after all the last
paper i would ever write in my soon to extinguish academic life...

    <tt>yeah yeah!! sg!

yeah i had five. was expecting three before i stepped it..

    1) same jap lady who caught me off guard with one of her Q. she doesn"t seem
    nice.
2)beaming guy who likes to talk and ask non-related stuff, and i was more
than happy to talk about things besides JET.
3)ang moh who sat up straight asked all the JET Qs and smiled once in a
    while
    4) some guy who asked only one question throughout and i think i didn"t hear
one of his comments correctly, and the beaming guy had to correct me :(
    5) small nice jap lady that showed me in and out.

u know what the two interviewers that really stuck out were that ang moh guy
and the beaming guy. ang moh cos he was an ang moh and he asked the weirdest
quesions and sat up straight and didn"t seem that friendly at all. And that
guy who always had a smile on his face. I like talking to him cos of his

    &gt;
    &gt;yeah sure!
    &gt;
&gt;oh man that day seems forever imprinted on my mind. you were the
&gt;1st?? i would had been nerved out. the order seems to had shifted a
&gt;bit by the time i got in:
    &gt;from left
&gt;1) that nice 30ish Japanese woman who insisted on torturing me w
    &gt;Japanese qns b4 i left
&gt;2)that awful angmoh man who asked the toughest qns, scribbled lots of
&gt;stuff on his A3 sized papers and frowned at my every answer
&gt;3) the nice middleaged Japanese man who yes, was still wearing his
&gt;smile by the time i came in. he caught me offguard immed with
    &gt;his &quot;Have i seen you somewhere b4?&quot; qn the minute i walked
    in...
&gt;4) a nice slim 20ish Japanese lady who ushered me out too, and asked
&gt;me if that was the first time i underwent such an interview
    (&quot;YES!!&quot;)-
&gt;-think that means I was really nervy throughout the interview.
    &gt;
&gt;no sight of the sleepy gentleman though--think he decided to droop
&gt;off for a nap and conserve energy for the next day? since i heard
&gt;that there were F-I-V-E interviewers for Julia too, if am not
    &gt;mistaken.
    &gt;
&gt;yupz. overall pretty unsure how i performed--but i always am, even
&gt;when I"ve done well...so i take it as a good sign. bt am all prepared
    &gt;mentally for any news.
    &gt;
&gt;hope to hear more from the rest to while away these painful
    &gt;hours/mins/secs...
    &gt;
    &gt;essay word count: 1800
&gt;rite SHOULD be getting back to serious stuff. it"s after all the last
&gt;paper i would ever write in my soon to extinguish academic life...

    &gt; &gt;
&gt; &gt; Hee, it"s kinda funny for me... u went in last on the 12th, while
    i
&gt; &gt; was first. Wonder if the same panel had interviewed us all...
    &gt; &gt;
&gt; &gt; Let me recall the pple in that rectangular room in the embassy
    that
    &gt; &gt; fateful day...,
    &gt; &gt;
    &gt; &gt; (from the left)
&gt; &gt; 1)a lady in her 30s with a tiny voice, i can hardly hear her qns!
&gt; &gt; 2)an old but tsuyoi, bespectacled japanese man with white hair
    whom
&gt; &gt; seems to be smiling the whole of 20 mins while i was in there.
&gt; &gt; Wonder if he managed to freeze his smile till he finished
    &gt; &gt; interviewing every one...hohohoho
&gt; &gt; 3)an Ang Moh man, who seems to possess a deposition completely
&gt; &gt; different from the previous guy. He hardly smiled and his qn to me
    &gt; &gt; was really tough!
&gt; &gt; 4)another japanese man. He was Late!!! for 10 mins!!! so unlike
&gt; &gt; japanese! Half of the time, he seemed to be driffing away ... and
    &gt;he
&gt; &gt; looked like he just woke up! Grr, was interviewing me tat boring?
&gt; &gt; 5)a petite japanese lady who urshered me into tat interview room.
&gt; &gt; Cool and cold at first, but she talked to me as i was walked out
    of
&gt; &gt; the room. What a relief! Silence was unbearable on that day, at
    &gt; &gt; least to me...
    &gt; &gt;

posted yet. I"m anxiously awaiting my notification in Seattle
too . . . I actually graduated from college a couple of years
    ago
    but
decided to apply to JET this year.

Not much else to say besides that right now. Good luck to you
    and
    everyone else!

Anyone from Seattle area waiting like me?? I"m currently a

the University of Washington finishing up my undergrad
    degree.
    Can
not wait to hear back and find out if I will be in Japan next
    year
    or
not. Everyday I look forward to check this site and going
    home
    to
check my mailbox. Anyway, let me know maybe we can meet up
    and
    chat
    over Bubble tea or something.

<tt>Thanks Erin for contacting the consulate!!
Just be patient! I"m going to try to make an appointment with my
    doctor soon.

I was really good about waiting to find out if I"ve been accepted
into the program or not . . . until I heard that other cities were
starting to get their letters of notification. Then I started to
    get
antsy. Then there was nothing in my mailbox today. Then I started
to get antsier. Finally, when I heard that the deadline for
    medical
forms was coming up very soon, I gave up on being patient and
    called
the consulate in Seattle. This is very unlike me, but I"m going to
be in New York City on vacation for most of the latter part of
    April
and need to make a doctor"s appointment *now* if I do get accepted.

Unfortunately, this is the e-mail I received in response to my call:

The Seattle JET Program Office is still awaiting official word
    from
Tokyo. As you have heard, the deadline for the Health Form will be
in late April. If you are concerned about not being able to set an
appointment in time, please go ahead & schedule...we should know
    the
results by the end of the week if not earlier.

By scheduling now, you will have an appointment time, which is
convenient for you & we should be able to tell you the results in
time for you to cancel your appointment if necessary.

    Thank you for your patience.

Argh! I suppose I should be grateful to have some idea of when I"m
going to find out, but all I can think is that we might have wait
almost another whole week around here!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, Seattle.

    Erin

Ah ha! Shows how much I"ve been paying attention. Duhhh. Let me or
know if I can help you with anything when you are on your trip. :)

Hope it comes before the end of the week.. doubtful though if the
results aren"t even in Seattle yet. :-/

Oh, that"s probably not very clear. If you get accepted, there
    are
medical forms that you have to fill out and return by the end of
April. You have to get examined by a doctor, and part of the
    reason
that I called to find out is that I will be gone from the end of
    next
week through the deadline for the medical forms and I was
    concerned
    that if I didn"t hear soon, I wouldn"t be able to get a doctor"s
appointment in time if I did get accepted.

<tt>I think I"ve been thinking about the what-ifs since before the
application became available. That"s probably why I have so many
reservations. That"s probably why I"m considering not going if I get
accepted. But it"s such an opportunity... My goal is to STOP
thinking about it until the results arrive. Obviously, I"m not
meeting that goal, since I"m at work yet constantly checking this
forum. *sigh* Anyhow, at least the torturesome waiting is almost
over. I haven"t waited for something so much since I was a kid.

I think that the reality that I will be in Japan in Aug. is

    I

Hopefully this is just a passing thing. I only found out my status
