I"m from Kent and I have also been placed in Kumamoto (in Kumamoto
City) so I"ll see you at the pre-orientation!
Come join us on www.ithinkimlost.com & www.bigdaikon.com and you"ll
find some more people who have been placed there too.... People have
been telling me great things about the prefecture - and we also got
lucky with a ruling that only allows you to work 20 days each month -
so if there are more than 20 working days a particular month you get
the rest off as holiday (around 8-10 extra days off a year). Not bad!
Anyway, see you soon!

<tt>Hey Lynette,
Yes I"ve been to Japan twice before (or maybe three times if you
count the stopover on the way to the Philippines). On my two
week trip I bought a rail pass and went all the way down to Kyoto,
Hiroshima and Miyajima. I think i tried to do too much in the
short period I was there. It was exhausting but lots of fun.
Hi Chris,
Good to hear from you. Hang in there as upgrades should
happen very soon. Sounds like you have a lot of teaching and
international experience, so you probably have a good chance.
Take care and good luck with your finals.
Good to know more folks that went through the LA consulate
and are in
the SD area as well.
I"m also an alternate and am hoping that Angel (the lady at the
JET
office in LA) will send word soon of upgraded LA alternates. I"m
a
bit nerve-wracked since I am juggling school, work (I travel out
of
state and country at least 3 times a month) and worrying about
JET.
Not healthy. @_@
I"m in the process of finishing my degree in political science
(I.R.)
and have studied in Japan before so I have some passing
knowledge of
Japanese. Heck, I"ve even tutored Japanese exchange
students in
English before. Granted that lasted for a quarter and I don"t
think
they got too much out of it. Amused they were though.
Thanks for crossing your fingers! =) I know there"s at least
one
other
alternate from UCSD also. I"ve got some experience teaching
- not
much
tho.. I used to teach religion classes at chruch - I did that for 2
and a half years... that was more like babysitting. I"m sure
you"ll
do
fine in Japan tho.. no need for nervousness - just have fun
with
it!
Wow - you used to mentor at Freese - I"m not exactly sure
where that
is but I know it"s somewhere in my area. Have you ever been
to
japan?
I was there earlier this year.. I loved it!
So far, there are at least three people from UC San Deigo
that
will be going to Japan this year. I hope you get upgraded
and
will keep my fingers crossed for you. I actually graduated
with
a
B.S. in Biochemistry/Cell Biology. The only kind of teaching
experience I have is training lab assistants and TEP130
(class
at UCSD) in which I was a mentor at Freese Elementary in
South
San Diego. It will be totally new to me and I am kind of
nervous.
Yikes!! :) Do you have teaching experience?

Philippines! Haha. What did you think of the Philippines? I wasn"t in
Japan for too long - it was only for 10 days and I only went to parts
of Tokyo and Saitama. I didn"t spend too much time trying to do too
much sight-seeing, I had a feeling that I"d eventually be back in
Japan and I"d have plenty of time to do that. Go figure - I"m still an
alternate... but we"ll see happens.. I know I"ll eventually get
there.. somehow! =)

Thanx all for the maps, I now know where saitama

me more
excited (if possible)^_^
And great to hear from perth JETs, hyougo-ken is a
beautiful area
(very close

I will be seeing
you at the
orientation in tokyo, as perth and brisbane are
supposed to go at
the same
time (group B).
To all Saitama JETs, YAY! See you all there in two
months!

Hey!
No, I think the town which the beer comes from is a different one
near Tokyo.
Good to hear from you Alex, which part of Kent are you from? and
which induction are you attending in London? I"m going to the 6th

Yeah, it does sound like a cool prefecture, can"t wait to hear from
