Not necessarily a word I've just learned, but I've been noticing more ossans and jiichans using "boku" instead of "ore" when I watch TV. Is it a humility thing?

I've been taking Japanese classes since last September (start of the uni year) with the Genki book. The most recent lesson was on adjectives. Would be great had I not just had a break. Catching up on vocabulary is a b-.

I'm now confident with basic katakana, basic hiragana, hiragana dakuten and handakuten, youon, sokuon and choonpu, and I've just started learning radicals on WaniKani. I've been using TextFugu, some of my own books, Dr. Moku, and I've been completing worksheets as well.

Lolol idk they're just what Dr. Moku calls them! I call them fancy hiragana.

Edit: Modified hiragana! Modified, modified, modified.

Today, I learned that ぞう means both "elephant" and "statue." So a statue of an elephant is ぞうのぞう…
Also, はし means both "bridge" and "chopsticks." And a bridge made of chopsticks would be はしのはし!

Yeah people complain about kanji but it would be pretty damn confusing at times to read stuff without it.

When people say a word at me that I don't understand, I'm really happy I have my kanji to fall back on. Usually when I ask them to write it out I can either understand it or attempt to figure it out easier.

Volleyball club were arm wrestling, so I asked them what it was in Japanese. Answer: 腕相撲 (うでずもう) - arm sumo.

If you're in Japan saying that, you would actually use "kimashita" (came) at the end instead of ikkimashita (went). Saying, "I came to Japan in July" instead of "I went to Japan in July." Not sure where you're writing from physically though just making a point??
