They can't go without an ALT for two months?

These are both my thoughts exactly!

My mother is very sick with ovarian cancer and so I'm breaking my contract and leaving two months early. So, now, I'm responsible for finding my own replacement.

No, apparently they cannot go without an ALT for 2 months.
And, yes, according to my supervisor it doesn't have to be a JET. Weird!

I'd actually follow up on this if I weren't already under a current JET contract.

And this could be a scam, probably not, but hey, let's throw it out there.

She works for JET in Nagahama, Shiga. The JETs there a nice bunch of people and I doubt that JET or the poster is out to screw/scam people over. There are also scads of JETs in that town.

    Christ, you are paranoid.

Haha! No this is not a scam.
My mom really is sick and the position really is open.
And thank you Urthona, yes, we are nice and yes, there are a million of us in Nagahama. 7 in my apartment building alone!

too bad they can't recontact the person or i'd definitely take the spot. i certainly hope your search isnt getting in the way of your returning home.
always a JETsmaid, never a JET.

If you have to go home, just go home. Unless you plan on coming back or something.

I only went to Nagahama once for a weekend to visit a friend placed in Shiga but we spent almost all our time there and Nagahama is definitely a nice town. Close to that otherwise a hell-hole except for the Shinkansen, Maibara, close to Kyoto/Osaka and for a town of its size, it feels much larger.

Lots of Brazilian food from what I can remember and that is always a win and other decent cafes/restaurants. Also, the JET community I met in Shiga was really friendly.

I'd put it up it there with plum positions in JET. I'm sure Markteacher80 can go more in depth on what Shiga has.

EDIT: I must say I'm surprised that really want a replacement for those two months though - but best of luck with finding someone.

When you say you are 'responsible' for finding your replacement, do you mean in the vein of 'I feel bad for leaving early so I am going to find someone to replace me'? Or 'My supervisor said I have to find a replacement so I am looking for someone so I can go home'?

If it is the second, bollocks.

So, I wrote "I'm responsible" but I called my supervisor and he said that he's looking too. It's a relief, I was under the impression that it was my responsibility.

And, yes, AliDimayev, I will go home whether I find someone for my place or not.

Yes, i can confirm this is legit. And the reason they have to have the spot filled for the final 2 months is because if they dont, the financial office of the city will not get the full budget for a new alt next year. there are private and JET positions in that city, so if you are interested maybe if you contact the boe and say you will fill this spot for them if they can offer you a non jet position from august, who knows they may just say yes.
