    Default Going back to uni

    Righto

So I think the Americans already know if they have got their spot in whatever but us Australians - they like to tell us at the last minute.

I've made several applications (standard UAC form, six preferences) and now I just have to wait.

It's a bit of a shit really because I think they start making offers in late May early June at the earliest which gives us a month and a half to get everything organised which is just really not very good at all. Add that into all the sorts of crap that come along with leaving Japan and I'm not particularly happy about it. And then if we get offered nothing at all (unlikely I hope but still) then we just sit around on Centrelink in the current economy?

Anyone else in the same boat?

Out of curiosity, did all of you guys want to do a graduate degree after you got your bachelor? or is this some urge that arises while you're on JET? Just wondering since at this point in time, i have NO plans at all to pursue a graduate degree...

Well in my case I started a PG degree after I finished my Bachelors but was interrupted by JET so off I went to Japan on a leave of absence. But I decided that I liked the place - so I contacted uni and asked if i could be transferred to a distance course, they got the shits and said no, come home or withdraw, so I withdrew and was thoroughly shitty with uni.

But I think that in the end it was a blessing in disguise because it forced me to think about trying to apply my talents elsewhere so it's been my goal while on JET to get myself into a different degree completely from that one. JET gave me a lot of thinking time time to think about what I wanted to do.

Don't you decide ahead of time what you study at grad school?

I applied for post grad as soon as i finished undergrad, but couldn't really afford it. Got accepted onto JET, so i politely told the uni that i really wanted to do the course, but i just got a job offer i couldn't refuse and withdrew my application.
I told them that i planned on returning to the UK in two years though, so asked them to keep my name on records incase i applied again.

    They did, I did.

Changing my mind about this was one of the best things I ever did. I recommend it.

Me too... I was all set to go down the PGCE teaching route too... but not any more. Nooooo thank you.

Instead I'm doing an MSc conversion course in Psychology, and hoping to pursue Educational/Developmental Psychology somewhere down the line. Can't wait to get back to Uni and stuck into all the hard graft
