Default Using blank comics in class

I usually tack these onto the end of exams for extra credit. The funnier they are, the more points they get.

Here are some blanks I have made:

I'll add more as I make them.

Here are some of the results I've gotten:

I don't understand. Are they filling them in on a computer?

No, I took what they wrote and entered them myself on my computer. That way it doesn't have their names or cruddy handwriting.

Oh. I see. Again, this looks very interesting and fun(ny), but since most of my students can't come up with a two sentence introduction, I doubt many could do this.

IF it weren't for my one advanced class...

Thanks, LolJapan! A grateful nation salutes you.

Ahahaha. You included one of my absolute favorites: the "Don't draw a penis, don't draw a penis..." Penny Arcade strip. I have often felt similarly in class here in Japan while doing my lousy drawings to explain something.

hahaha I think you'd have to draw speech bubbles in there but I bet they'd come up with some funny stuff.

Ahh...nevermind. I presented the idea then got the classic teeth sucking in response. Followed by, "that would be too difficult for them".

Oh well. Hopefully another JTE will like this.

That's why I don't ask anymore, I just make the copies and hand them out in class

I'm giving the students this one next week as extra credit for their midterm:

Ooh, I'm so gonna do this. Anyone have any more to offer? I'll try to make a few, myself, and post 'em.

yeah, because who needs free flowing drugs and alcohol fueling adventorous sex with taut, lithe young bodies when you could wander around a dying town in the freezing cold with a can of asahi super dry in your hand while some toothless old farmer shouts at you.

Something tells me that drawing captions to pre-drawn comics would appeal to students in this country as well.

I love the "this is my pencil case" one.

I love this idea so much I already used it with my third year SHS students. It took them a full 50 minutes to write a three-panel strip, and the results weren't as comprehensible or as funny as the examples above.

I was thinking more of using it as a bonus activity for some of my more advanced kids. I need a new bulletin board idea. My bulletin boards are usually ignored by the vast majority of my kids, but the last time, I tried a big crossword puzzle in an attempt to make it more interactive. It worked kinda well, so I'm shooting for something interactive again. I'm gonna try prizes this time.
