I got Yamaguchi-ken. It's funny because all of my placement requests were for areas that get lots of snow . I suppose I can't bitch too much; it's japan!

Maybe we could trade. We got Aomori(know nothing of it) but I have read since finding placement that the city is the snowiest in Japan(apparently recorded something like 6.5 feet). Now I just wonder where the closest skiing is...

I have a relative in Aomori Prefecture who moved there knowing nothing about Japan (job transfer) and absolutely loves it. He's extended his contract for four additional years. There's an air force base in Misawa as well. So, if you're close to there you'll have access to a decent foreign community and American imports if you want them.

I've been to Tateyama several times. It's an awesome area. That snow is not somewhere anyone lives or would host a JET. It's a tourist attraction. I'm pretty sure there are zero schools there. A really awesome one, at that.

I've never been to Yamaguchi, which is kinda weird bearing in mind it's so close,
We can hang out tho if you're close to shimanoseki etc. (south of prefecture)

LOL, Aomori is one of the places I requested. My brother is at Misawa. Too bad we really can't trade.

Since no one else, seems to be posting....

So apparently Yamaguchi is really well-connected! According to http://www.oidemase.or.jp/english/where/
It's 30 mins by shinkansen to Hiroshima and Fukuoka
2 hours by shinkansen to Osaka
    4.5 hours to Tokyo

    Awesome!

edit: there is a museum with 5,000 ukiyo-e paintings in Hagi! I am sooo excited!

Hey peoples. Outgoing JET from Hagi here. I'm selling my car if anybody wants it. Or if anyone just has any questions about Yamaguchi, just message me or something like that.

Hey! This thread hasn't been used since 2009, but since it's been labelled as the official Yamaguchi thread, I won't start a new one.

2012 placements are out, or so I hear. If you've been placed in Yamaguchi, I'm super excited to meet you. I'm sure you have a bajillion questions, so ask away.

Yamaguchi-ken placement here. They just said Yamaguchi-ken...no -shi or -cho so I don't know exactly where.

Hey, TheDoctor! Welcome to Yamaguchi!! Where are you from? (Edit: Also, which embassy/consulate did you apply through?)

If it just says Yamaguchi-ken, that most likely means that you will be teaching high school, which is administrated at the prefectural level. So you will have a base high school, but your employer is technically kencho (the prefectural government). If that's the case, you won't know exactly where you'll be living until your contracting organization (CO) and/or predecessor contact you. Sorry I can't be of more help in that regard! But let me know if you have any questions about Yamaguchi as a whole
