Ok, now that the standards have been established, I am ready to report my own results. I scored a 189/180 on N1. You guys probably didn't understand the instructions on how to find the bonus questions. They were written in japenese.

And now, my requisite comment on how the grading standards don't make sense because it was so much easier than I expected: LOL I guess I didn't need to suck my tutor's dick so much!

    Damn, I don't speak Japenese.

That must be why I missed those bonus ones...

You need 100 total points to pass N2 and if you get below 19 in any section you fail no matter how perfect your listening score may be.

    I think.

I've heard the awkwardly titled BJT is a good test for foreigners with a high-level proficiency. Don't know much about it though.

Although I remember seeing an article saying they were discontinuing the BJT and this December is the last time the test will be offered.

Sadly, I failed N1 with around 50%. I was hoping for better and thought for sure I did better on the listening. Overall its not too bad for a first time taking it when I wasnt even ready to take it yet. Got a lot of studying ahead of me but I should be ready for December.

Is it possible to go from N2 to N1 in a half-year? I imagine I'll need at least a full year of pretty intense studying to get to that point...

it's definitely possible. I was taking the old tests, but I passed 2 in July 2009 and 1 in the following December, both with about 80%. If they don't mind if you study at school, just drill kanji constantly in your down time and then pick up a grammar book (I like unicom).

    also, speed anki!
