Default Official 2011 Non-Jet Applicant List

Hey guys, since there seem to be a large number of you sticking around applying to other alt programs apart from JET I figured it might be nice for you to have a list too.

As far as I'm aware this hasn't been done before so if any of the mods have a problem with it just let me know!

So i'll use a similar structure to the JET list, if you list your country, programme you're applying to and current status please.

Congrats and welcome (a little early) to Hokkaido! Sapporo is one of the best big cities in Japan! I am not a big city girl and I love to visit it. I currently live on the east coast of Hokkaido!

I'm getting more and more excited about Sapporo~

Initially I wasn't so sure because I'd heard rumors about how cold it is and I hate the cold... But I'm living in New York now and was told that the winters are comparable. So yay, Sapporo~!

You're a JET, right? What kind of school(s) do you teach at? I've been told that I'll be teaching at a jr. high. Gotta admit, I'm kinda nervous~

Sapporo's weather is a lot of snow and around 0 temps in the winter. It's a beautiful city with lots of wonderful festivals and a ton of JETs. Oh and you can't forget the restaurants and the beautiful nature of the rest of Hokkaido.
I am a JET I live in a very small town so I teach nursery through high school. Technically I'm not supposed to teach at the high school but we do them a favour.
Jr. High is all about your schools and JTEs, just be professional, hard working, and careful not to step on toes and you should be fine.

Yeah, didn't want to do anything definite till I was certain it was Game Over.

I honestly think this sub-forum should become more buzzy. JET isn't the only way to get to japan, and once you get here you'll be able to share a lot of things that the regs do in ag. Keep them coming!

Thought I had failed at the phone screening process. Was caught totally unprepared when they phoned me around 2 hours after submitting my online application and in the middle of a work out! Don't think I spoke coherent English at times! Need to step it up for the actual interview!

Thanks Hopefully I'll find this site to be useful and that I can offer any help to others should they wish it.

Interac have offered me a choice of a May or August start if I'm successful. If I choose May then I wouldn't know where I'd be working till after arrival in Japan. I told them I'd consider it. Personally for me I don't mind where I work but the whole not knowing till you're actually there does present a problem. Still undecided...
