Of course not, just think of all the really specific weeaboo fetish porn you could do.

Its also important to remember the many specific 'honorfic phrases' that you should use on a daily basis... while 'arigato gozaimasu' might be considered correct for most things you might like to try 'nenkyu zankyou!' when asking for time off..
    How are you? Yes yes!

You won't go to PTA events. You won't tutor kids specifically to their needs 1v1 after school. You won't receive emails from any of them. You won't be a college professor. You will be an ALT, and you will laugh when you get your paycheck.

Ah okay I'm getting it now. Unfortunately this paycheck is not worth laughing at but at least I have more time to study Japanese while I'm there. Thanks for the tip.

How can I dress "nicer" than a suit? (Though if I join clubs after school I'll be sure to bring athletic wear as well)
Oh my goodness no. Nice pants, nice shirt, tie. The end. You don't even need a suit for enkai. Graduation day and opening ceremonies are the main days when you will need a suit.

I thought of that from the first post, but this thread is bringing up a lot of good advice for people who might be wondering these things without too much fluff mixed in, so meh.

I make no effort to be taken seriously, but I'm also respectful. I'm not really friends with more than 2 or 3 of my 15-20 JTEs, but that's fine. I have fun, and the kids like me.

Someone mentioned the actual Japanese title for ALTs. The way I understand it, "Gaikokugo Shidou Joshu" (My title, anyway) just means "Foreign Language Coaching assistant" or "Foreign Language Guidance Helper" to deflate it enough to reflect the reality of the position.

Anyway, I read books and play with my iPhone between classes and I still get invited to enkais and my JTEs still seem to like me well enough.

    Don't worry about it

I think he's trolling. But you'd be surprised how many retards actually do come here as an ALT and think that they are "real" teachers. Eikaiwa monkeys too.
Ok, picture a mind.... Now flay that shit!

I thought I'd be a teacher in that i'd be used in the education and my insight into class planning would be taken into account. Two years on, I'm happy just to be let into a classroom and watch the jte teach. Rofl.

Yeah, that's fair enough. But thinking you're going to come here and have responsibilities rivaling a home room teacher? Yeah, the guy is either trolling or incredibly dumb.

Pretty much the same. I never try and make an effort to be taken seriously but I still have a pretty good relationship with my JTEs. However, the kids hate me.

Shame about your kids! I used to get annoyed that the kids didn't respect me like a teacher but I think of it more like i'm their big sister as opposed to teacher and that seems to help relationships.

I still think this is a troll. I don't mind giving advice though. The guy knows a lot about schools that boobs won't have researched and the replies have been really good so yeah, it's not a bad thing.

yeah, because who needs free flowing drugs and alcohol fueling adventorous sex with taut, lithe young bodies when you could wander around a dying town in the freezing cold with a can of asahi super dry in your hand while some toothless old farmer shouts at you.
