    Default The Salary

i remember last year there was a lot of confusion since they were going to change the salary structure. now that it's been in effect for a while, can we get a break down of the actual take home now?

Why don't you just, you know, look at the official website? That's what it's there for.

The JET Programme--Official Homepage of The Japan Exchange and Teaching Programme

Salary details there. The confusion was the before / after tax stuff, which is now settled: the new salary is before tax.

Income Tax for me in August was only about 8,000 yen/ month. Haven't had to pay residency tax yet because I wasn't living here at the start of the year or something.

So you're looking at about ~30,000 less/ month than pre-2012 applicants.

Still easily enough to live on as a single person. It's a bit tighter for couples on a single JET income now, though.
