Thread: Omitting course information from application?

Default Omitting course information from application?

    Hi guys,

So I know this has probably been covered in some capacity or another already but I simply couldn't find it using the search terms I thought would be applicable. At any rate here's my dilemma (which I'm sure others may face as well):

I did take one education course in college that I did quite poorly in (the circumstances surrounding this are a story for another post). I received a D+ and never retook it as I ending up choosing a different major/minor so I didn't need a higher grade. JET is obviously going to see my transcripts anyways, but do I need to put it on the application in the teaching/education course section (remember, one of the required fields is the "grade received")? I think it will just bring unnecessary attention to it for screeners. But then again, seeing it on my transcript but not the application may also bring unwanted attention to it (I dunno how closely they actually review transcripts). Thanks for any advice.

If it's on the transcript, put in on your app.

Agreed. If it's on your transcript, it should be on your app. You might get a very quick question about it if you get to interview, but unless it's something ALT/Japan related I really can't see them being concerned.
    ...because Japan.

Ok, I thought this might be the case.....how bad do you think it will look having a D (+ mind you!) in an education course? I mean it was just like an intro course, not like specifically ESL education or anything.

I dunno, how does it look to have a C- in semantics as a theoretical linguistics major? I'm still here.

I had some Fs and Is (not in core subjects, but still) and I'm still here. You can be a complete f*ck up and still make it on JET (you will quickly realize this once you start meeting your fellow JETs); you just need to put together a solid app and be able to appear competent enough to make it through a short interview.

yeah, because who needs free flowing drugs and alcohol fueling adventorous sex with taut, lithe young bodies when you could wander around a dying town in the freezing cold with a can of asahi super dry in your hand while some toothless old farmer shouts at you.

There's always that one class. (Or maybe that one professor ...) For me as a music major it was conducting.

Lol, after this I went and checked the transcripts. I also got a C- in Introduction to linguistics as well. Thank god for all those As at the end

Like word said, when you get here, you'll realize one of two things. A) you're the bottom of the barrel or B) Good lord some dumb people get in on JET.

Some of my university grades are disgraceful, I only graduated with a 2:2. But in all honesty, I'm not that worried about the grades. From what people have said, they are only 1 of many things to be considered.

In my own defence, Business Studies is the most boring and unspecialised degree one could ever choose. I had the choice to switch to Creative Writing in my first year as well. Oh, do I kick myself now.

Everyone has a few bad subjects on their transcript for numerous reasons. Like I have them cause I found the subjects boring or couldn't stand the lecturer. Ironically though the International Law subjects which everyone else hated I enjoyed :P

And yeah Aurano, I kind of wish I could do it all again now too.

same here. I liked my major and minor, but many missteps haha.

Yea I'm worried about the sub par grades on my transcript, just hate putting the D+ on the actual application haha....and its for a teaching course.....o well.

Honesty is the best policy... Better to be upfront than have to explain why you left anything off.
