    Hi ITIL,

    I decided to post this job opportunity here because I thought some of you might be interested in non-JET careers. My company is looking for a candidate for our President's Training Program. The program will be held for a year, and you will be offered a permanent position based on your performance during the year. Here are some of the details of the program:

    Details of Program

    • Conducting research, developing and initiating projects aimed at business improvement and development
    • Facilitating management of proposed projects
    • Managing and ensuring completion of current & on-going projects
    • Researching and creating opportunities for the company to improve its CSR endeavours
    • Managing the company’s social media presence
    • Studying the company’s core philosophy and values
    • Developing Japanese language skills

    Requirements

    • Excellent written and spoken English
    • At least a Bachelor level degree (preferably a Business-related Degree)
    • Interest in business leadership and good leadership skills
    • Should be ambitious, innovative and possess an analytical mind
    • A high level of computer and internet literacy
    • Experience writing, editing & proofreading articles, presentations and speeches
    • Experience in social media management
    • An interest in social enterprise, community work and improving society
    • An interest in Japan and Japanese culture, and experience in successfully adapting to cross-cultural situations
    • A commitment to learning the Japanese language (training provided)

    Program Details
    Open to: People ages 20 - 30, of any nationality
    Education Level: Bachelor's Degree (obtained before November 2014)
    Language skills: Native-level English (spoken, written), Japanese skills not required (training will be provided)
    Work Location: Tokyo (Trainee is expected to relocate to Tokyo for the entire duration of the program)
    Program Period: November 2014 - November 2015 (Candidate is expected to be able to start work in Tokyo by the first week of November)
    Salary:
    176,000 yen per month (probation period - 3 months) -- approximately 150,000 yen after tax
    200,000 yen per month (after probation) -- approximately 170,000 yen after tax
    Transportation allowance: Cost of a commuter pass from applicant's home to head office
    Air-fare (for candidates living overseas): One-way ticket to Japan (reimbursement after arrival).
    Accommodation: Applicant will be allowed to stay at the company's dormitory at 36,000 yen per month​ for the entire duration of the program.

    when you look at the required qualifications/experience it seems fair.
    Great men of action never mind on occasion being ridiculous; in a sense it is part of their job.

    150,000 after tax first 3 months, then 170,000 after? Probably working more than 10+ hours a day? Living in expensive as hell and crowded Tokyo? It's a tough price to pay for a year of experience. An applicant of that quality can get a better job in America making more than $12.50 an hour gross after 3 months.

    5th year JET friend (who was making like 270,000 after taxes) just got a private hire ALT job in Shizuoka making 240,000 net pay, also has all the school vacations off (which they still pay him for).

    not everyone whats to be an ALT....

    Living in Tokyo, doing something more interesting than "teaching English", being paid to study Japanese (with something better than the JET language programme)

    Doesn't seem that bad. standard starting salary for a new graduate office lady.

    Agreed with Ini. Getting a good living salary in something non-ALT aint easy. This as a starting position you use to springboard into something else is pretty good.
