I don't think so? I'm not sure why I don't; it seems like I tried to do this recently to add money to my US Xbox account and wasn't able to for some annoying reason.

Don't trust me, though; I could be completely wrong.

yeah, because who needs free flowing drugs and alcohol fueling adventorous sex with taut, lithe young bodies when you could wander around a dying town in the freezing cold with a can of asahi super dry in your hand while some toothless old farmer shouts at you.

You might be able to, but everybody in between (and involved) is going to charge you fees for it.

It's easier and cheaper to use Goremit or the post office.

After you set up GoRemit, it's super easy to use, cheap and fast. I would go with that rather than anything else.

yeah, I tested it out. Seems it works, 3 man cost me about 1200 with fees. The only problem is they hold your balance for a very long time so it is slow.

Last time I used Lloyds it was very fast. Granted, that was way back in 2009.

I usually get my money within the day unless I send it Friday afternoon. It's super convenient.

I'm not a drug dealer so I don't have to transfer money across borders.

Same. Never had to wait more than a couple days back in 20102011, not counting when I could have got something like 53 yen to a USD right after Tohoku, but the remittance took a week and it bounced back to 80 something.

I wasn't actively trying to profit off of a global disaster, but I would have liked to...

GoRemit (the current incarnation of Llyods) is pretty quick. Furi-komied on a Friday afternoon, in my account in the US on Monday morning...

I use GoRemit, too. (It was bought by Shinsei Bank) and it will be there the same business days. I also get an email every day with the rates so I can decided which day to transfer money home. The yen is so freaking weak it makes me want to cry.

Has anyone used bitcoin to send money to/from Japan? I'm still looking into it and I found this reddit thread that details some successful transfers, but it would be good if some users on here had some experiences with it.

Sending Money to Myself (overseas) from Japan : japanlife

Here's a specific post from the thread:

    Here's what I'm doing...
I used Circle to buy bitcoin instantly with my Japanese credit card. The price was pretty close to the current dollar-bitcoin exchange rate and it is free to use. I then use my Japanese bank account to pay it off in full.
I also have a Coinbase account linked to my American bank account. Also free. I sent the money to my Coinbase account (bitcoins arrive almost instantly). Then, I converted the bitcoin to USD so it gets automatically deposited in my bank account.
I prefer this way because I don't have to pay 2000 yen to my old GoRemit account when I send money. And I don't have to pay my American bank 15USD to receive money. (Although Coinbase will make a cut with the exchange rate slightly in their favor.)

I'm not looking to buy child pornography or black market firearms so I don't use Bitcoin.
