Thread: ALT blogs/vlogs/books and such stuff

Default ALT blogs/vlogs/books and such stuff

    Hello.

When I was a wee ALT still bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, I enjoyed watching ALT vlogs. Now that I'm bitter and depressed, I've stopped trying to find new ones.

Please share any current or exceptional ALT vlogging, blogging, and etc, thank you.

Pretty much the only ALT blog I've read was Gaijin Smash, back when he was on his old site. It was pretty funny.

yeah man Az is a legend. He's like the godfather of JET. Reading his blog way back when was half the reason I became interested in applying to JET in the first place.

Tumblr has a lot, but beware that half of them are frothing SJWs or prone to complaining about being a vegan unicorn in Japan. Other than that, they have a little community going on and it can be a good way to meet people. Just search 'jet program(me)' and enjoy.

It really is. Would you mind if we promoted it as an example of ITIL's awesomeness?

Apollo, don't listen to these Debbie Downers and Negative Nancies! If your vlogs are good, people will come.

yeah, because who needs free flowing drugs and alcohol fueling adventorous sex with taut, lithe young bodies when you could wander around a dying town in the freezing cold with a can of asahi super dry in your hand while some toothless old farmer shouts at you.

Hey man nice site! I clicked around and read some of your articles. We should do a collab/guest-post on each other's sites sometime

So that will take altinsiders total up to 50+ articles and yours up to 3? I can't wait for that meeting of the minds
Great men of action never mind on occasion being ridiculous; in a sense it is part of their job.

To be fair, his site has some other stuff, but either way, I'm willing to be anyone's number 4.

I really like This Japanese Life. | A New England Expat in Japan. but it might not be everyone's cup of tea.

There are a few, but Day-in-the-life style blogging generally sucks. However, I do like some of the ones where someone has done something ambitious, like a south to north bicycle tour (much less focus on the biking, more on the people they meet, which was cool.) Or the Hokkaido dead train line station search.

I find most blogs to be pretty boring, because they are often complete re-tellings of the EXACT SAME thing another blogger has already written about with no new information.

Vlogs are a little better, only in that they might have an attractive/interesting personality doing something, but the generic "I have a head and look its on video" does nothing for me... give me a blog version of that instead so I can read it faster to determine it's pointless.

JET books are generally terrible. The comedic ones aren't bad for a quick read through and a laugh, but the ones that try to be serious are just pointless. It's already been written about before, you're not adding anything new, so just don't bother.

In some ways ya actually. There's no reason to reinvent the wheel if you're not making it better/more novel.

I agree. How many apartment tours do we really need?
