I'm curious as to where that is exactly; in Japanese there isn't really a city of Tokyo.
I think they mean the city as opposed to some obscure islands quite a ways away that are technically under the jurisdiction of Tokyo.

Tokyo JETs are rare, but they do happen. One of my host mom's former students came back to Japan and worked as a JET in Tokyo.

Yeah I know. I'm interested in whether there are actually positions in the 23 special wards that we sometimes call Tokyo City. After all, towns like Okutama are still in Tokyo Prefecture and also on the main island.

Oh get off your high horse, you know what I mean. I don't know where but the term my coordinator used was "Tokyo- the city" when saying that she had been placed there. So I'm assuming that means one of the 23 special wards.

No I don't know what you mean. There are large urban areas outside the 23 special wards in Tokyo Prefecture, and there are also mountainous areas a good distance away. As Becca mentioned, "the city" could conceivably be used simply to differentiate it from the Izu islands, etc. This kind of information is important for laughing at noobs who put Tokyo down as a preference.

I can't believe someone got Tokyo. That's like 1 in 4000 shot. I guess someone in Tokyo just finished their 3 years.
    That's what she said.

Got my placement. Warabi City High School it is.

Apparently that's just south of Saitama City.

Is anyone else in or near Warabi City?

    No they don't. Not anymore.

Tokyo JETs live on the islands that count as Tokyo but are further away from Tokyo than most other JET placements.

There are no JETs in the capital, its all private and/or arranged in a different manner.

How do you explain Curstilace's friend's email? A typo?

But, really, let's not let this one veer too much off topic. This is about Saitama placements after all.

Jtegnell, congratulations! Are you happy? If I am not mistaken (and I may very well be), I think that's a pretty highly ranked highschool (which means less disciplinary problems for you!). Is that your only school?

My wife looked at some Japanese websites and found out it's among the top ten in Saitama. She read up on them from the school's own website as well, and it seems to have a pretty active exchange program with high schools in Australia, New Zealand, and Sweden. There's also a summer Language Camp (whatever that means) and an experimental video correspondence with kids in other countries conducted in English.

All in all I doubt I'll be bored like many JETs. It seems I'm pretty fortunate.

The only minus is that Warabi is "famous for being the most densely populated city in Japan" according to Wikipedia, so our accomodations may be tiny and expensive.
