Ride a bicycle in Texas; Japan will seem like a cyclists' heaven by comparison. I've had sh*t thrown at me for no reason, people screaming obscenities, nearly been killed (possibly intentionally) on multiple occasions. Still, it was cheap, kept me in shape, and if I ever needed to move around some stuff and be guaranteed that the cops would completely ignore me...

yeah, because who needs free flowing drugs and alcohol fueling adventorous sex with taut, lithe young bodies when you could wander around a dying town in the freezing cold with a can of asahi super dry in your hand while some toothless old farmer shouts at you.

I dont think you can praise a place just by comparing it to texas.....
Great men of action never mind on occasion being ridiculous; in a sense it is part of their job.

Hey, mothy did it by comparing it to Saitama!

    But, really, you're right...

Edit: It's really weird to be from a place that, when telling people where you're from, you always hafta follow it up with something like, "It's not as bad as you've heard, I promise."

Oddly, Saitama is pretty great for cyclists. The Chichibu railway is AFAIK the only passenger railroad in Japan with bike cars.

I often find my self saying things like 'Texas is a great place to live' and 'I really like Texas, actually'

I always feel soiled afterwards. Lying is not good for the soul.

You must have not been here yet when the one guy came and insisted that Saitama was the best because there was a cafe he liked.

Cycling in Saitama is popular. I have to assume it's because the activity makes them feel like they're escaping Saitama.

This weekend they had some sort of tour de france thingamajiggit.

I remember the guy, but a hipster coffee shop is not a good thing in my book.

Let me guess, the prize was an opportunity to escape Saitama?

    Seriously? That's priceless.

But then, having been to a Saitama hospital, I can sympathize.

He came here, bitched about the hospital, announced he was leaving, boom.

He sticks in my mind b/c he lied about being shortlisted in the 2011 intake. Came on ITIL talking about upgrading to business class, b/c jj don't fly coach, etc.

I wonder what it is about the JET Programme that attracts such awful, awful people.

Heh, I guess it's all relative. I'm used to the odd "fuck you, faggot!" followed by a thrown beer bottle. Japanese cycling is heavenly compared to that of the US.

I know someone who was hit by a car - and their school didn't give two shits other than 'The ALT is late...'
