Default Why were you accepted by the JET Programme for a second time?

TL;DR - how did you convince JET to take you back??

This is to all those who have been accepted on to the JET Programme for a second time. Firstly, well done! I hope it was as good for you as the first time. Although we never know exactly what gets someone accepted, I would be interested to know:

    1) What justification did you give to wanting to return to JET in your application statement?
    2) What "second time JET" specific questions were you asked in the interview?
    3) How did you respond to those questions?
    4) How many years gap was there between your first and second stint on JET?

Just as a bit of background, although I have a perfectly good career post-JET and am fully aware of other ways to return to teaching in Japan, I quite simply want to be a JET ALT again. I can easily continue my career once I return (and indeed if I return) from Japan. I also don't expect JET to be the same as the first time around, and am unconcerned by the pay cut - I do not measure success financially. Is simply feeling passionate about the objectives of the JET Programme enough to get back in your experience?

    Many thanks

Yes, or at least it was back in '11. The returner in my incoming group told me he lied through his teeth about "global citizenship" and the like to get one up on the fresh meat. He was up to his eyeballs in Kansai skirt before the first payday.

Are any second timers going back with the current intake over the next few days?

They'd have to be, I imagine.

If you're not applying as a used-to-be-an-ALT-now-want-to-be-a-CIR then please, for the sake of humanity, don't reapply

Why would anyone want to be a CIR? A slightly higher chance of real work to do and the same crap pay.

    Post-JET options tho!
Either way though the SEA position is where it's at!

I never got the SEA position. If you have those qualifications you can do a lot better than a JET set up.

Well so can most CIRs but that doesn't mean it's not a good stepping stone to get you back in country

I don't think being a weeb who can speak Japanese real good is on the same level as being an Olympic level athlete or a professional coach.

Real good is a relative term. I'm real good at Japanese compared to my dog.

Hey I know an sea. He's just here for a year or two to get practice teaching his sport and waiting for his gf to finish graduate school. It's basically a break and fuck it sounds sweet. He's basically never at work and travels around the country at least once a month or more
