Thread: Time to call it a day

Default Time to call it a day

    Hi folks,

I've been looking at the number of posts here in recent days/weeks. It's a very low number.
There's also been an increase in spammers, which are deleted by mods/admins before their posts are visible.

I've said this before, but this time I really think it's time to pull the plug.

ITIL just isn't feasible to keep running at just over £200 a year (USD$260). I looked at cheaper alternatives but they do not provide SSH access to the server - something that I like because it's just so much easier to debug and fix issues.

We're also bringing in zero revenue from ads now, and donations only ever come in during a donation drive - something I hate doing because it's always the same people who donate huge amounts.

I'll leave this post here for a while and gauge people's reactions and thoughts.

Great men of action never mind on occasion being ridiculous; in a sense it is part of their job.

    Yes, it's probably time.

From the small amount of time I've been testing the new hosting service, I'm impressed.
I'll be moving the site shortly. You'll see it become locked, probably very soon.

Hmm, that was painless. I'm sure something major will be found to be broken shortly though.

    If so, let me know.

But yea, I'm fine with $5/month - if nothing major is broke (we have a month or so before the renewal is due), then the site can stay

You mean we're already on the new service?

Is that why the ads are suddenly more intrusive? I mean I hate to use adblockers, but right now the ads are bigger than the posts and can look like a user posted them.

I'm glad that we found a new service to allow us to continue these forums. I think of the regulars here there is a great friendship and bond I see in the posts, and I also see this place as a great archive of materials. So I am happy to see it continued.
