Thread: I don't believe it!

    Default I don't believe it!

I wasn't given an interview, but I got an acceptance letter into the program.

This is amazing and unexpected. Did this happen to anyone else?

I had totally changed all my plans, but I guess now I have to change them all back.

I don't think that's possible. You should prob call, they most likely made a mistake during mailing. You don't want to change your plans back without confirmation.

8O odd. I'd suggest calling them to make sure they haven't screwed up before you start changing plans.

And if it's not a mistake... you lucky bastard!

Seriously guys... not trolling. I'm in and it's confirmed. You're all screwed!

And crustylace... never banned. I asked to have my account removed, which was confused with a ban so I asked that it be undone.

Man, maybe they should require a degree higher than BA or BS.
Since I didn't get an interview, there wasn't much use to me reading about your boring lives.

Now I'm back in and desperately need your infinite knowledge.

It's not difficult to believe that Jermlab was sent an acceptance letter, even though he was not granted an interview. The program coordinators routinely send out acceptance letters to people who did not make the cut. Most of the time, they realize their mistake and correct it before it goes too far. However, it is possible that, in this case, they don’t even realize that they’ve sent an acceptance letter to the wrong person. I know it's not likely, but it's possible.

I would hate to see Jermlab or anyone in his situation get a physical and jump through all the hoops only to have them come back and say, "Who the hell is this guy, and why is he sending us his information?"

So, if it were me, I would try to verify whether or not I was truly in the program or if they had accidentally sent an acceptance letter to the wrong guy.

    Routinely ...?

I think if it has your name at the top of the letter and the letter is addressed to you it is intended for you ...

ETA: Not to say that I don't think that Jermlab is a good troll.

Yes. There is at least one person on this board who received an acceptance letter by mistake, and two or three on BD. It happens with interview notifications, too. And if you look through the archives, it happens every year.

I'm not at home but I have been told that I've received a 'big, brown envelope' from the embassy. Did those who got accepted in the UK get their notification in such an envelope?

A rejection would be a thin white envelope... big and brown is good in this case.
