Ok, just wondering if the ~たい suffix can be added to a verb in the potential form to express, "want to be able to do something" or is there another construction entirely?
e.g. Can 読める become 読めたい?

No, you need to use naru.
Had me going for a couple of minutes though. Pulled out my grammar book and all.
