    Default more jlpt "help"

Sorry if someone's posted this link before:
    http://www.kanjistep.com/en/online/w...est/intro.html

Just got an overall 98% for Level 4 and 76% for Level 3 (of course, it doesn't include listening). Why the huge difference? My kanji sucks. So much for even trying for Level 2!

which means that if i stick to my daily 2 hours, that's 208 hours of studying.

you'd think it would be enough...

It doesn't have listening, reading or kanji questions?

There's a fair amount of kanji in the sections it provides and I didn't cheat by looking at the bottom of the page for the footnotes.

Yea i was looking at it but my best section is the first 40 questions of just straight kanji. And my listening is not too bad either anymore after i studied it a lot.

my vocab is my biggest falling point and you need a shitload of vocab for those tests.

Good practice but not good diagnosis I think?

Yeah, even in the vocab section (for 2kyuu at least, there's no 1kyuu *stabinates*) it's missing a few types of questions that come up.

My vocab totally screwed me. I was surprised at having to read all that hiragana in the level four test, but I had no idea what a lot of words were - easy words that I should know! I got a despicable 57%. It's time to pick myself up a study book and get to it, enough of this lazy studying for me!

there were footnotes? i didn't see those.

which level are you taking, kate?

action taken for Project Pass Level 3:
    - started a study group
    - started taking conversation class
    - ummm... yeh.

apparently doing a level way too high for me isn't enough motivation to get off my arse and do more studying. :P

I'm so far not even planning to take a level, but apparently it would need to be level four. I think if I studied my ARSE off I could maybe pass level three, because I have a pretty decent kanji arsenal, but my vocab is apparently so shit that I should just keep my goal low. I wasn't previously thinking about doing the test, but now I'm wondering if I should indeed make it a goal.

Yet there's no level 4 study book on amazon.co.jp? Do they not exist? Am I just supposed to know enough basic Japanese not to need such a book? Curses.

well, they say that level 4 needs half an elementary course, so if you get something like minna no nihongo and finish about half the book, you'll be fine?

Did the 4q test for shits and giggles.

    Got 90 something percent.

lots of silly 'didn't read the question properly' mistakes. Hmmm ...

I am doing the 2Q in the real test in December. Scary stuff.

Can you not get hold of a vocab list and study x number of words per day? I know it's boring and nerdy and I am fully prepared to be bashed for promoting rote learning, but it does actually help with not only the vocab section but the listening and reading too. I've been doing that for the past couple months, and I've noticed a visible improvement, especially since I upped it over the summer.

Edit: For 1 and 2kyuu, which require thousands of words of vocab and test you on words with similar meanings, a better way would be to get hold of something like 徹底分析 文字・語彙 and study off the lists that gives you, then do the quizzes at the end of each section. That book has been a godsend for me.

    60% on 2kyuu

I woulda passed, but the Mimetic section and the grammar killed me. I've never studied for this test before, but now I can see why. It uses obscure and archaic words and structures that you NEVER see anywhere else.

    No, I'm not bitter.

    60 pc is a 2Q pass I believe?

Also this is before kanji, listening and other questions which may be where your stronger skills lie - not a bad result at all ...

Oh God, that GRAMMAR!! Being the lazy bitch I was in uni, I didn't study for 2kyuu, just kept showing up til I managed to pass, so I didn't pay much attention to what was in it. But I've been using an 1-and-2kyuu book to study for 1kyuu grammar, and the vast majority of the obscure grammar structures in there appear in BOTH EXAMS. So I'd say the grammar test you just did isn't that far down from the 1kyuu one, which I think is SERIOUSLY screwy.
