I read that like 5 years ago. It's pretty true though.

It has its moments - most of it swings between racist or puerile or both.

The last part is actually pretty funny but then yea cannot say I'm a huge fan.

I've gotta agree. It's got a few good points, but in other places it's either overly simplistic or simply full of fabricated nonsense to make it wacky. It sort of comes of as if the author was the "know it all" type... just enough knowledge to be dangerous, but doesn't actually know that much.

No shit, it ain't funny cuz it's some scholar dissecting the finer and not so finer points of Japanese for his academic peers. It's some pathetic mofo's even more pathetic attempt, failure, and frustration at learning a language that definitely isn't impossible to learn. This, is why its funny. The author being "racist" and "puerile" makes it even more entertaining.

So it's funny to watch other people fail?

That just made it about 10 times less funny.

Do you laugh at funerals too?

There are dozens of comedy movies that contain scenes occurring at funerals, funeral homes, dead people, or just reference them.

So yes, I laugh at funerals.

But then again, I can make the distinction between fiction and reality.

    Okay whoa.

    Holdon.

    Wait.

    Whoa.

The only thing we've found funny is watching some dude poking fun at himself about his own attempts to learn Japanese.

And you know what? He did it pretty well.

Sometimes the best way to combat failures and the darker sides of life is finding humor in it, Dombay. I hope you don't take everything else so fucking seriously.

I've seen Dombay take a number of things too seriously, IIRC Dombay was the same one with moral outrage against people posting hilarious engrish answers from their students.

How do you know that it's not you taking things too flippantly?

Is there a too serious? A not serious enough?

When will life become like an American Sitcom/Soapie so that my understanding of levels of seriousness can be standardised?

Yes, I'm clearly not being serious enough.

This guy was so out of line for writing satire, how dare he make fun of something so serious like....like....studying language.

Fuck man, language, LANGUAGE! The very basis of our society, our culture....the language of love, of music. It's everything that we are.

How DARE he mock language, especially a foreign language! Now that I think about it....that makes him a racist too doesn't it?

Is there any way we can burn him at the stake?

Weren't you just accusing ME of overreacting?

I thought his article was immature and puerile. Why have kittens over someone disagreeing with you?

Hahahah Dom, I'm making fun of your seriousness about non-serious issues....that's not the same thing as seriously being upset that you are that way.

Now if you'll excuse me there are some blind kids about to play darts nearby, and you know how much I enjoy watching people fail.
