So the myus.com website gives you an American address (i.e. their business address) that you can send whatever you've bought online to. They then ship it to your address in Japan for a small fee. It just means that you can buy stuff (with any credit card) from sites that wouldn't ordinarily ship to Japan.
yes, i can damn well use hashi ok?!

This has honestly been one of my favorite things about Japan so far.

One of Canada's most impressive stores:

    Mountain Equipment Co-Op - www.mec.ca

Best rainjackets EVAR. They also stock gortex and other rainpants, bags, jackets, etc. I don't think anything I've bought from them has ever worn out or broken. Top quality gear.

Shipping to Japan is a little pricey, but it's easy to rack up a large bill, so it probably works out.

www.asos.com has really fashionable ladies and menswear and they ship to a ton of countries worldwide, including Japan. I don't know what s&h is to there but from the UK to the US its only $6.25USD.

Return shipping can cost a grip though, so check that size chart carefully before you buy!

    www.karmaloop.com

For any fresh-to-death urban rockers/hip hop heads/skaters/graff artists/etc., this sweet Cali-based clothing store will ship to Japan. Great brands like OBEY, Crooks & Castles, Analog, etc. Backpacks, watches, and other accessories, too. All US sizes.

Also, if you sign up for their email list, you get tons of discounts. They just had a sample sale, selling stuff for 50-80% off. When they have a free shipping promo, they knock $8 to $12 off of international shipping.

This is where I buy any clothing I can't find in Philly, and I have never had a bad experience. If something fits funny, they put it in the description to go up or down a size. Really helpful and 24/7 live chat support.

I swear I don't work for these people, I'm just a regular customer with nothing but good things to say!

Just curious. For all these online shops and such, I'm assuming they require you to have a Japanese credit card to make purchases? You can't use your US card and have them ship it to your place in Japan?
Just curious if I should apply for a card asap. Wouldn't mind getting one early.

One I'm really curious about is Amazon.co.jp. There are some books that are coming out in Sept and Nov that I want.

They do usually take japanese credit cards, sometimes will take foreign credit cards. but what is most usually done by JETs is the konbini pay or the COD.

Japan is getting more and more plastic but is by and large a cash based society.

I meant not Japan, but the States. Well at least in my state it's not something very common (CoD). But that clears up the shopping thing for me though.

amazon.co.jp take my New Zealand visa and mastercard (often), pretty sure they would take visa/mastercard from anywhere.

Amazon is so good, they have a pretty damn good range of all sorts of things now, and there prices are often up (down?) there with the cheapest places. Also heaps of their stuff has free shipping.

Things I have bought in the last two weeks from Amazon.co.jp:

    Microwave
    Watch
    Bicycle computer
    Bike stand
    Health and beauty products (haha)
    A bunch of textbooks

Amazon.co.jp takes my US issued cards with no issue. If you try to buy something off of the Rakuten website, don't count on your card working.

In terms of delivery, if you're at school all day, do they leave a slip on your door and you pick up the package at the post office? If you're doing COD, you need to be home for the delivery right?

yeah you need to be home, but the japan post will deliver from about 8am to 9pm 7 days a week and in many situations you can go and pick it up from the post office. if it is from a delivery company or the japan post and you are not there when they come the first time you can call them and tell them when you will be home to receive it.
