Last year, it took the IRS 6 weeks to send me a letter saying they has receive form 8802 and were processing it, so no need to fret too much, yet . . .

I think they said not to worry about that one, that it could arrive even after we are in Japan.

I faxed mine on the 11th, so I guess that means mine is likely on its way....

Over the weekend I noticed that the IRS website mentions something about no longer accepting 8802 via fax as of 2006 (in spite of the instructions published in 2007). I wound up snail mailing the original w/ a cover letter just in case.... I guess that wasn't necessary!

Where does it say that? I didn't see that when I was looking... but yeah, either way you'll be getting your letter soon.

Kind of expensive to pay $35 just to get a sheet of fancy green stationary that says "I certify so-and-so is a U.S. citizen for tax purposes." I feel slightly gypped. I should've requested more than 3 copies.

You feel gyped? I only got 2.

To be fair, it's a nice shade of green.

    Foreign Certification Requests

Effective November 1, 2006 the IRS will no longer accept Form 8802 filed by FAX.

As the IRS gains experience with processing applications using Form 8802, it may update the Form and Instructions accordingly.
    Make up your mind, IRS!

Although, now that I'm finished with school and have nothing to do but sit on my butt for awhile, I really should get going with that. Yea...

Is there anyone else who hasn't received his/her IRS form yet? I sent mine in rather soon after being accepted (don't remember the exact date, but the 11th sounds about right..), but nothing quite yet..
