Good idea, I was going to post earlier letting other Brits know the application was open today but if you lot are anything like me you'll probably know already... been checking the website every hour or so for the past week, even more so while at work.

Lol I see your point there! That bit did sound a bit 'lets all share our feelings' Americanish - no offence meant

Any of you in East Anglia? Suffolk? Coz if you are and you want to meet up and have a chat about applications, SoPs, JET in general, send me a PM.

    Hi everyone

Bath applicant here. I've got most of my supporting material sorted out already and most of the application form filled out, I'm just waiting for a few extra details and trying to figure out how to put certain things down on the application form.

Any other Bath/Bristol/West Country people about?

Hey Leah you sound pretty organised I've still got a ton of stuff to sort out and finish

What prefecture requests are people thinking of putting and why?

At the moment I'm requesting: Okinawa, Kagoshima or Nagasaki, and Kyoto (though I supremely doubt I'll get it!). I'd prefer something down the south in the warmer climes though I'm not particularly fussed.

Hehe, I started putting everything together months ago. I'm just waiting for my referees to give me my letters and I need to confirm a few details in my medical history so I can get my GP to write me a proper letter.

I'm completely foxed by some of the questions on the application form, but I'll figure them out sooner or later. Do they really need to know the exact start and end dates of my degrees? I can give you months and years, but days...?

At the moment my placement requests are 1. Osaka 2. Okayama 3. Hyogo. I don't expect I'll be placed in Osaka city and I'm actually happy to go anywhere, but that's the bit of the country I'd like to be in.

i would imagine the end date would be your graduation date (on your actual degree) and as for the start date a rough estimate should be fine surely? Anyone else know better?

I was all set to put down mainly that sort of area too but then got randomly drawn to other places so thought I'd branch out a bit! If you know what you want though go for it I say

Leah, make sure you put down "Osaka prefecture" as your first choice.

Rachel, if you're hoping for warm, forget Kyoto. Snow and all that. Excellent SoP by the way - check your PMs!

For start dates I believe I put the first of the month of the year I started and end date was last of the month of the year I finished the actual courses. For crying out loud, I graduated in '92, '93, '99 and 2003. The only one I really remembered was the last one! So don't worry too much!

The pulldown box lists "Osaka" and "Osaka City", so I assumed that "Osaka" referred to the prefecture... that's right, isn't it?

I rang up my old university's alumni office and, aside from some quibbles about when I actually completed my Master's, they had all my start and end dates on record. Phew!

I've just put month/year details (and in some cases, just years) for some other things though, like some of my older overseas trips and extracurricular activities. Hell, I went through my old Record of Achievement and found some things I didn't even remember doing!
