I had people find me during Tokyo Orientation. Or folk who knew me by my handle during some of the meetings at my prefecture.

The JET Coordinator at my consulate knew who I was online. One of the Program Coordinators during the Tokyo Orientation actually had someone track me down and we had a drink together.

Heh, I've gotten comments like 'Your a lot more normal than I thought you would be.' from numerous people >.>

Its a bit interesting when the different 'worlds' collide even if they are related.

I'm really glad I didn't find this site until after I had been accepted, then...

I randomly met someone in Hiroshima last weekend. I said my name, and then when he asked where I was located, I told him I was on a tiny island.

    "Goloons?"

    "...Yes..."

    "Hi, I'm matt360."

    It was pretty hilarious.

I would add "not enough international experience" to people's list of reasons for not being accepted. It's certainly a plus to have, but JET accepts plenty of people who don't even have passports when they apply.

I stuck out like dogs' bollocks when I went to Tokyo orientation as a TA.

It helps to be shameless attention whore.

    I believe it's a pre-requisite for the TA role.
